Coil

Coil heater elements are the traditional coiled resistive wire designs used in the majority of hot tub and spa flow-thru heaters. The coil is encased in a protective metal sheath (Incoloy for general use, stainless steel for added durability, or titanium for salt systems and maximum corrosion resistance), allowing efficient heat transfer to circulating water while withstanding high temperatures and scale exposure.

This category features replacement coil heater elements and direct fits, in popular ratings: 4.0kW, 4.5kW, 5.5kW, 6.0kW, 8.0kW, and 11.0kW (120V or 240V), with standard screw-in (1-1/4" NPT thread), flange-mount (bolt pattern), clamp-on, or center-terminal styles. Common lengths and bends include straight coils, U-bend coils for low-flow or irregular manifolds, and titanium upgrades for saltwater spas. Compatible with brands like Balboa (M7 systems), Gecko (in.ye/in.stream), HydroQuip universal, Sundance/Jacuzzi smart heaters, Watkins No-Fault, and many aftermarket manifolds.

Coil elements vary by wattage/voltage, sheath material/length, thread or flange type, bend configuration (straight, U-bend, or custom), watt density (to match flow rate and prevent burnout), and pack compatibility—exact matching ensures proper insertion, secure sealing with included gaskets/O-rings, and safe, long-lasting performance.

Common problems include no heat from open-circuit or burnt-out coils, slow or uneven heating due to heavy scale/mineral coating on the sheath, corrosion/rupture in non-titanium coils exposed to salt or poor chemistry, tripped breakers from internal shorts, or reduced lifespan from high-watt-density coils in low-flow systems. Replacing just the coil heater element is usually the quickest and most economical fix—restoring full heating without replacing the entire manifold assembly.

To select the right coil heater element:
- Confirm your spa brand/model, control pack, voltage, current kW rating, manifold type, thread/flange size, sheath length, and any visible markings on the existing element.
- Check for scale buildup, corrosion, or error codes related to heating performance.
- Avoid guessing—send us clear photos of your current coil element (showing the sheath/coil shape, flange/thread details, any labels/markings, manifold opening, wiring connections, and spa label with model/serial number) for expert verification.
