Transformers

Transformers used in hot tubs and spas are low-voltage power supply components
typically located on electronic control boards. Their primary function is to
step down incoming line voltage to lower voltages used to operate control
circuits relays sensors and topside controls.

This category includes spa board-mounted transformers and replacement
transformers used in electronic control systems. Transformers do not power pumps
or heaters directly. They only supply low-voltage power to the control circuitry.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You do NOT need a board transformer if your hot tub is tripping the breaker.

If the breaker is not tripping when the control board is unplugged that does NOT
mean the transformer is bad. When the board is unplugged it is not powering up,
so the real cause of the breaker trip is not being energized.

In over 7,000 hot tubs serviced we have seen only ONE failed transformer. That
failure did NOT trip the breaker. It occurred on a Sundance spa with a Sentry
850 system where the topside appeared normal but after running for about 10
minutes the pumps would shut off. The transformer was overheating and the low
voltage would drop until the relays could no longer stay closed.

Notice the breaker was NOT tripping.

If your hot tub is tripping the breaker you need to diagnose the real cause such
as a shorted heater pump blower ozone system wiring or moisture intrusion.
Replacing the transformer will not fix a breaker trip.

Transformers fail very rarely. Replacing one without proper diagnosis is one of
the most common and unnecessary repairs made in the field.

Before ordering identify the control system model transformer output voltage and
mounting style. Transformers that look similar are often not interchangeable.
