Hi-Limit Sensors
Hi-limit sensors are critical safety components used in hot tubs and spas to
monitor water temperature and protect the system from overheating. When a
hi-limit sensor detects unsafe temperature conditions it shuts down the heater
or entire system to prevent damage or unsafe operation.
Hi-limit sensors do not cause a hot tub to overheat. Their purpose is to stop
continued overheating when unsafe conditions are detected.
If a spa is overheating the hi-limit sensor is functioning correctly and the
actual cause of overheating must be identified and corrected.
Common causes of hot tub overheating include excessive filtration or heating
cycles especially during hot ambient temperatures pumps running too frequently
or for extended periods incorrect pump wiring after a recent pump replacement
and trapped heat caused by heavy insulation during summer months.
Circulation pumps run continuously by design and do not cause overheating.
Control board relay failure can cause overheating but this is rare.
In extremely hot climates venting the spa cover by breaking the seal on one side
can help release trapped heat though cooling may take several days.
This category includes hi-limit temperature sensors used in a wide range of spa
control systems. Hi-limit sensors vary by brand resistance values connector type
length mounting style and control system compatibility and must be matched
correctly.
Installing the wrong hi-limit sensor can result in error codes nuisance shutdowns
or unsafe operation.
Before ordering identify the spa brand control system and existing hi-limit sensor
part number.
If you are unsure which hi-limit sensor is correct for your spa do not guess.
Text clear photos of the existing sensor control box and wiring connections and
we will help confirm the correct replacement before you order.
