Circuit Board Transformers

Circuit board transformers are low voltage power components used in hot tubs and
spas to supply operating voltage to the spa control board and related circuitry.
These transformers convert incoming line voltage into the lower voltage required
for control logic sensors and relays.

This category includes replacement circuit board transformers used in specific
spa control systems where the transformer is a separate replaceable component.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ BEFORE ORDERING

You do NOT need a circuit board transformer if your hot tub is tripping the
breaker.

If your breaker is tripping and the trip stops when the circuit board is
unhooked that does NOT mean the transformer is bad. The breaker is not tripping
because the board is not powering up when it is disconnected. This means the
real cause of the breaker trip is elsewhere in the system.

If the breaker only trips when the board is connected you MUST diagnose the
actual cause of the breaker trip. Watch one or more videos on diagnosing breaker
trips before replacing parts.

Based on real world experience servicing over 7000 hot tubs bad transformers are
extremely rare. In decades of service work only one failed transformer has been
encountered and it did NOT trip the breaker.

That case involved a Sundance hot tub with a Sentry 850 control system. The spa
would appear to operate normally for approximately ten minutes. After that time
the pumps would stop running. The issue was the transformer overheating which
caused the control board voltage to drop until the relays no longer had enough
power to stay closed.

Notice that this failure did NOT trip the breaker.

A tripping breaker is almost never caused by a bad circuit board transformer.
Common causes include heaters pumps wiring moisture intrusion or grounding faults.

Replacing a transformer without proper diagnosis will not fix breaker trips and
can result in unnecessary expense and continued problems.

Before ordering a circuit board transformer confirm that your spa specifically
uses a separate replaceable transformer and that the transformer has been tested
and verified as failed.
