You are buying a 2 1/2" Thread X 2" Slip Heater Union with Gasket that matches Union. The Union receives a 2" pipe or fitting on the glue side and then Screws to a 2 1/2'" Heater Flange using a 2 1/2" Nut on the heater side. It will Glue to a 2" Pipe or Slice that measures about 2 3/8" across and screws to a 2 1/2" Heater Flange fitting that measures about 3 11/16" across. Don't be confused we also offer other 2 1/2" Heater unions that are 2 1/2" thread X 1 1/2"Slip or a 2 1/2" Thread X 2 1/2" Slip. If your plumbing is 2" and your heater is 2 1/2" this part is correct. This version is the 2nd most popular version. 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 is most popular and 2 1/2" X 1 1/2 is least popular. This part is used in hot tubs to plumb to a 3" heater with a 2 1/2" Nut.

This is a chart for the outside of your plumbing pipes so you can figure out what size parts to order. Note: The actual size a part is called is not the actual size of the hole in the part it is really the Inside Diameter of the pipe that would glue into that part which doesn’t make sense, since you cannot see inside the pipe. Therefore I am giving you the measurements of the outside of the pipe so you know what size part to order.  For example a part that ½” plumbing would glue in to would actually measure ¾” inside the hole of the part and on the outside of the pipe that glues into the part.
