The most common failure of heater elements is a tripping breaker. If you disconnect the two terminals going to this heater and your spa runs and no longer trips, then this part is more than likely the culprit. Another failure is that they simply no longer heat your water - If you have no error codes (FLO, 3 dots, LF etc) you can use a volt meter to test for continuity across the element terminals. You should get about 11-11.4 ohms for a good element and zero for a bad or open element. If no continuity change the element, if you do, then you will need to look elsewhere like a circuit board issue.
